The NaijaScore9 odds converter translates one betting price into three commonly used formats. Enter the odds exactly as displayed, select the original format and the calculator will show the equivalent decimal, fractional and American prices.
If you enter an optional stake, the tool can also calculate how much profit the selection would produce and the total amount returned if it wins.
Convert Betting Odds in Three Steps
1. Choose your original odds format
Select decimal, fractional or American odds. This tells the calculator how to interpret the value you enter.
2. Enter the displayed price
Copy the odds from the market you are checking. Include the plus or minus symbol when entering American odds and use a forward slash for fractional odds.
3. Review the conversion
The results show the equivalent odds formats and the probability implied by the original price. If a stake was entered, you will also see the potential profit and total return.
Changing the format does not change the value of the price. Decimal odds of 2.50, fractional odds of 3/2 and American odds of +150 represent the same underlying offer.

Understanding the Three Odds Formats
Decimal odds
Decimal odds show the total amount returned for every unit staked, including the original stake.
A ₦5,000 selection at decimal odds of 2.50 would produce:
- Total return: ₦5,000 × 2.50 = ₦12,500
- Potential profit: ₦12,500 − ₦5,000 = ₦7,500
Decimal odds are particularly convenient when comparing prices because a larger decimal number produces a larger return on an identical winning selection.
Fractional odds
Fractional odds show the potential profit relative to the stake.
Odds of 3/2 mean that the bettor could make three units of profit for every two units staked. A ₦2,000 stake at 3/2 could therefore produce ₦3,000 in profit and a ₦5,000 total return.
The original stake is not included in the fraction itself.
American odds
American odds are also called moneyline odds. They can be positive or negative.
Positive American odds show the potential profit from a 100-unit stake. Odds of +150 indicate a potential profit of 150 units for every 100 units staked.
Negative American odds show how much must theoretically be staked to make 100 units of profit. Odds of −200 indicate that a 200-unit stake would produce 100 units of profit.
Odds Conversion Formulas
The calculator completes these calculations automatically, but the underlying formulas make the results easier to verify.
Fractional odds to decimal odds
For fractional odds represented as A/B:
Decimal odds = (A ÷ B) + 1
Example:
3/2 = (3 ÷ 2) + 1 = 2.50
The additional one represents the returned stake.
Decimal odds to fractional odds
Fractional value = decimal odds − 1
Example:
2.50 − 1 = 1.50 = 3/2
The resulting fraction is reduced to its simplest form. When the original decimal has been rounded, the converter may display the closest mathematical or commonly used fractional equivalent.
Positive American odds to decimal odds
Decimal odds = (American odds ÷ 100) + 1
Example:
+150 = (150 ÷ 100) + 1 = 2.50
Negative American odds to decimal odds
Use the absolute value of the American price:
Decimal odds = (100 ÷ absolute American odds) + 1
Example:
−200 = (100 ÷ 200) + 1 = 1.50
Decimal odds to positive American odds
When the decimal price is 2.00 or higher:
American odds = (decimal odds − 1) × 100
Example:
2.50 = (2.50 − 1) × 100 = +150
Decimal odds to negative American odds
When the decimal price is below 2.00:
American odds = −100 ÷ (decimal odds − 1)
Example:
1.50 = −100 ÷ (1.50 − 1) = −200
These conversion methods are consistent with the standard formulas presented in established betting-education resources such as the Smarkets odds conversion guide.
Converting Odds into Implied Probability
Implied probability translates a price into the percentage chance represented by those odds.
For decimal odds:
Implied probability = (1 ÷ decimal odds) × 100
For example:
(1 ÷ 2.50) × 100 = 40%
Therefore, decimal odds of 2.50 represent an implied probability of 40%.
The corresponding conversions are:
- Decimal: 2.50
- Fractional: 3/2
- American: +150
- Implied probability: 40%
Implied probability is not the true probability
The percentage produced by the converter describes the entered price. It does not establish the outcome’s objective chance of happening.
Bookmaker prices can include:
- A profit margin
- Market-liability adjustments
- Customer betting activity
- Differences between pricing models
- Recent team or player information
To calculate the bookmaker’s overall market margin, you would need the prices for every possible outcome—not one selection alone.
Read why two bookmakers can offer different odds on the same match for a fuller explanation of pricing models, margins and market movement.
How Potential Profit and Total Return Are Calculated?
When a stake is entered, the calculator uses the converted decimal price.
Total return = stake × decimal odds
Potential profit = stake × (decimal odds − 1)
Suppose you enter:
- Decimal odds: 2.20
- Stake: ₦10,000
The result would be:
- Total return: ₦10,000 × 2.20 = ₦22,000
- Potential profit: ₦10,000 × 1.20 = ₦12,000
The total return includes the original ₦10,000 stake. Potential profit does not.
These calculations assume that the full stake is accepted, the selection wins and no deduction, commission, void rule or special settlement condition applies.
When an Odds Converter Is Useful
Comparing prices from different websites
One betting site may display decimal odds while another uses fractions or American moneyline prices. Converting both prices into the same format makes a direct comparison easier.
Use the converter alongside NaijaScore9’s football odds when checking equivalent prices.
Understanding unfamiliar odds
American and fractional prices can be difficult to interpret if you normally use decimal odds. The converter shows the equivalent format without requiring manual calculation.
Checking implied probability
Converting odds into a percentage helps explain how strongly a market price favours or opposes a particular outcome.
Estimating possible returns
Adding a stake shows the possible profit and total payout before a selection is confirmed. This is useful for checking the calculation, but it should not be treated as a recommendation to increase the stake.
Reviewing football predictions
A prediction estimates what may happen. Odds determine the price available for accepting that uncertainty. Use the converter after researching the match through independent football predictions, not as a replacement for match analysis.
Odds Converter Methodology
NaijaScore9 uses established mathematical formulas to convert decimal, fractional and American odds.
For consistent results:
- Calculations should use full numerical precision internally.
- Decimal odds should be displayed to two decimal places where appropriate.
- Implied probability should be displayed to two decimal places.
- Fractional results should be reduced to their simplest form.
- American odds should be rounded to the nearest whole number when required.
- Profit and total return should remain separate values.
- Invalid formats, zero values and decimal odds of 1.00 or below should return a clear validation message.
Because some displayed bookmaker prices are already rounded, converting a price into another format and back again may produce a very small difference.
Important Calculator Limitations
The NaijaScore9 odds converter does not:
- Predict whether a selection will win
- Remove the bookmaker’s margin
- Compare complete market overrounds
- Confirm that displayed odds are still available
- Include every possible commission or deduction
- Guarantee that a bookmaker will accept the entered stake
- Recommend how much money to bet
Always review the final odds, stake, market name and settlement rules before confirming a selection. Use this calculator as an educational decision-support tool and never stake money you cannot afford to lose.
